  • Specs needed on a small gold search coil for Whites Goldmaster-2

    Hello!

    Looking for tech data / inductance etc -- all ideas appreciated.

    I'm able to build coils/electronics -- a local mining shop wants too much money for a goldmaster-2 mini gold search coil for my detector. I need to build one of these.

    Does anyone have the specs on this coil? I've got an inductance bridge, and I can build one.. but I hope to have a starting point. The local mining shop won't let me measure (reverse engineer) the L/C of their coil (understandably).

    Many thank you's from Gold Country CA!

    TX = 270uH
    RX = 3mH

      Thanks Carl - followup

      Carl,

      That is great -- appreciate the data.

      I suppose I will need to break into my as-purchased goldmaster-2 oval-shaped coil so I can see the design and determine how to build the small gold search head. I wonder if it can be disassembled non-destructively?

      So I guess I will end up with the larger RX coil outside of the inner (lower inductance) TX coil - are they both shielded (isolated between themselves) somehow? Maybe I need to be concerned about mutual inductance/coupling...

      Many thanks,
      Ronan

        good luck, Ronan. this type of coil is not yours but gives a concept...

          The GM mini loop is a DD, which is easier to build than a concentric. No need to bust open your loop, I'll get a photo or 2 posted in the couple of days.

              not DD, but to the subject may be useful.
