  • Improving Results in Tesoro Devices

    Hi
When i was looking IDX page, saw some interesting things!
I think tesoro devices are better than IDX, but some people said it has better results!
I thing First thing that makes it better is using capacitor near the coil (Not on the PCB)!
And another thing is using & testing several IC's for first stage of RX!
What's your opinions about these things!?

Yes, for King Cobra you can put the first stage of preamp in a coil. I do not see a problem to do that. Take a cable on 1 wire more with - this wire will be a power line for the preamp.

    good luck

All VLFs can benefit from a good preamp stage, moreover because of the 1/f noise in the gain blocks further on. An excellent FET input opamp in a gain block will have noise at 10Hz over 50nV/sqrt(Hz). A good preamp takes care of that.

nothing new. Minelab uses preamp stage in its coils:

        - Explorer
        - Elite, GT, Excalibur
        - x-Terra

        excellent FET input opamp
you are misleading. a FE Transistor is more noised vs. a semiconductor one.

At what impedance, and at what frequency?

FET amps generally have superior 1/f noise performance, and it is a dominant noise in ~10Hz region. E.g. LF347 has 1/f corner at 50Hz, while a typical bipolar has 1/f corner at 400Hz or more.

Sure, bipolar opamps such as NE5532 have superior voltage noise at low input impedances and frequencies beyond 1/f corner, while at tens of kohms where current noise becomes dominant your best choice is a FET amp, especially at frequencies as low as in gain blocks of a VLF MD.
