  • small gold pin pointer question

I am looking of a small metal detector schematic that would be sensitive to small gold. I would like one that would lend its self to a pin pointer configuration so I could use it to scan crevices and holes at the river. Could anyone suggest a detector that would be good for this. It doesn't need to have a discrimination circuit but that would probably be nice. I would like to make the coil about the diameter of a broom stick. thanks

    Grizzly,
Have a look here for a start.

thats close to what I am after. I am thinking of a small vlf or PI detector that I can belt mount or mount on a broom stick, ect. The prob can be attached to the end of the stick and used for checking bedrock. May be something like a Compadre with a very small coil. I dont know how well that would work but you probably get the idea. A PI detector might be better at looking through the black sands that are likely to be associated with the gold.

What you want is possible. But not an easy diy. For the vlf you need a sensitive circuit with good ground balance. There are schematics on this forum of the Fisher goldbug and a Tesoro Gold Demon capable of sensing small gold. Then you would need to wind induction balanced probe coil. This will be a challange.

For the PI approach maybe build a "Surf PI", kits are sold by Silverdog. Lots of info on the forum. Then see this by "BBsailor" about making a PI probe using soft ferrite. http://www.findmall.com/read.php?34,1678444. More complex pi circuits you can build are the GS4 and the SD2000.

You will need basic tools and oscilloscope etc.
