Remember that old Volkswagen commercial where they had a tall basketball player (think it was Wilt) standing next to a VW bug. The ad read "They said it couldn't be done...IT COULDN'T". meaning Wilt could not fit into a VW bug.
Well, today I tried something I'm sure many people say couldn't be done--I went out in the yard with my locator and did a couple rounds and the temp said -19F with wind chill -44F. I wouldn't go so far as to say it was good conditions, but I was able to locate my test target in the snow. Needless to say I did not stay outside for more than about five minutes. It wasn't my bare hands, I was worried about damaging the locator.
