Reasons are two. First as you say....... and second bacause this coil has very good directionality.
It can work with a small coil as chock but not so good sensitivity.
Also if i will use a normal smaller coil with a ferrite as radio coils then i have problems with the earth magnetic field (south-north).
It use transmit and receive.

It transmit at 300Khz via a crystal oscillator.
Receive frequency is adjustable !!!!!!

No, the red pistol is inside a BFO.

This spiral I use in absorptive magnetic type. I found with it silver items, old riffle 7.62 cartridge only gove one beep, but for silver is good. Also buttons platted gold, etc. :) I think is the king of coil for this use (receiver-absorptive). But I think your conic version is good for transmitter. Also I use the conic type (I post the pics months ago).

This device you made with conic coil,its not new in the market...
One friend from Spain who visit Alonso in Paraguay told me about similar LRL device,but using some LED´s,its exacly the same as yours in apearence,they call Tesla LRL,it detects only GOLD AND SILVER.
My friend from Spain become interested in device but Alonso not sell this one...Maybe Esteban also know about this device...

The device is new!!!!! it is my design. The conic coil or Tesla coil, of course it is not new. It is very old. My LRL has better performance at non ferrous objects but also detects the rust ferrous objects. The advantage is that it is very stable even at full sensitivity.

I know about it. The Tesla conic by Alonso is 32 cm long. Works at 400-500 V. :)

Yes, I know how a tesla coil works. For what it was developed to do, it works very well. Unfortunately for THers, there is no facet or concept of a tesla coil that will aid in the discovery of long range buried targets (ie. gold or buried treasure).

Carl can rest easy that his money is quite safe; at least in regards to any LRL that resembles a tesla coil. :)

Not big money for the travel of 2 persons thousands miles, hotel, expenses, etc.:shocked:

Perhaps not "big money", but certainly if someone actually had a "working" LRL (tesla based or not), it would be worth their time, money and effort to come to the US, demonstrate their LRL to James Randi, grab his $1M, and then pick up Carl's money on their way back home.

But, alas... no one has done that...... ;)

I assume the $ 1 M is for "mechanic LRL", no for completely electronic... Randi's prize is for paranormal applications... as I'm noticed.

You could be right. But before you discount the idea of trying for the $1M with your gadget, why don't you outline what it is that you intend to do with it, including the claimed accuracy, and then let the Randi organization determine if your gadget falls within the scope of their test parameters; or not.

Really??? Have you already submitted a proposal for a test protocol and is that what they told you?

I was under the impression your results would merely need to be significantly better than what could be obtained by chance guessing.

Now, admittedly the words "significantly better" might mean your results would have to be many statistical points better than pure chance; but if your claimed results (with your gadget) are not within that realm, then what good is it? :)
