Old Friend Built this

Back in late 1950s a friend of mine built one of those. He said an old guy came buy and gave him the specs. The old guy showed my friend ore samples from gold veins he had found with the LRL

I ask him how it worked and the explanation was the two large coils mounted on the tripod detected anomalies in earth currents. The metal veins cause the earth current deviations. That is about all I remember from that long ago.
