On other side, if you need to check every stone on Earth to prove how hard it is by striking the head against the stone to determine whether the head or stone are harder - you should live and repeat your striking experiments for billions of years to found something out.
Smart people simply know that the stone is harder than the head and do not even try futile experiments.
