GPR are LRL, but they are also complex, heavy, power wasting, difficault to use and to understand data provided on display... and most important you need mm details to see the coin round so hi-res at depth.
Hi res means higher frequencies and smaller antenna and so... also less propagation unless you put more and more power on tx side.
Also you need extra care about antenna size to get such a resolution... that will become worse each inch added over the target.
Good ideas could came from hybrid detectors used for landmine detection, that uses GPR cause the amount of metal in modern mines is really few (or nothing at all) that's impossible for a common MD detect e.g. borders etc of the buried thing or the object itself if no metal there.
I think a good hybrid machine could use a small GPR + a conventional MD; using PI will give more depth but lost of disc abilities. I think possible making an hybrid GPR/MD for the 10'' range over a small coin for few but so far I saw none for TH purposes hit the market. Maybe costs are still too high for to become actractive to THunters.
This could be solved , I think, if device will be mass-produced by some industry using solidstate technology modules... but I think nobody in the industry of MDs wanna introduce that technology for now cause they are happy this way... with 30 years old technology that THs still buy.
