I don’t know you use hidden transmitter , movie never show hidden transmitter .
Other thing , I didn’t decide saying you use transmitter .

On the book i think you have all tips and information to build a good pd. It´s just a matter of build it, and doing lots of experimentation. But before you build it, get sometime to buried some silver or gold coins, so when time pass you will have a test bed to get your pd tune. You don´t need to be an engenier, just build it and the rest will be experiments to find correct rx frequency, tx frequency and the most important nulling the signal after you find the correct resonant frequency. So get rx resonance frequency first (passive reciever) and after that try to find the correct nulling point.
Doing sparks it can help, but not having a good range of sparks detections, is not a meanning of a wrong correct frequency rx.
