I see Geo Ground decided to build a frequency locator with two L-rods. It kinda makes sense to me. Those hand-held locators just seem to miss out on how things work—you need a few minutes for the signal line to the target to develop. If you saw my other posts I figured out to place the Adroit on the ground with the antenna pointing up and then after a few minutes circle it with L-rods. It’s just easier for me. Anyway I have no idea what they are using or how well it works. I sure think it is easier to pinpoint with something like this.

They also have a two person model with what I call Spanish Dip Needles. I guess some people got that to work back in the Spanish dowsing days. I guess I shouldn’t comment on how much trouble I see this could be. I’ve never tried it so I don’t really know. If you read the instruction manual it describes the two person device. As with the handheld locators I don’t recall ever seeing one that determines target size. That leaves the chance of finding insignificant-sized targets. The only ones I know about are the Eliminator e-120 and the EFNMR2015 and PathFinder.

The fact you carry the transmitter on your belt this is not really the same as setting the transmitter on the ground and waiting for a signal line to develop. It is what some call a “follow rod” device—you follow where the rods point. Actually you watch for the rods to cross a bit when aimed at the target. I don’t have enough experience with this type of set-up. The Adroit uses basically the same system—follow where the rod points. I prefer to cross the established signal line. But I do admit this is more convenient especially if you are climbing rugged hills, you take everything with you as you go.

I should also mention some manufacturers say to walk in a zig zag or “S” path when using the swing antenna. It is easier to get a rod response compared to walking straight towards the target area. Sometimes I walk in an east/west direction with the search area to the south of me. I aim the antenna slightly towards the south and it seems to catch the target easier.
