It sure seems like it would be easier and cheaper just to buy this unit. It says easy to assemble, and you would still have to buy the sensors if you build your own. And it would require programming and testing. No way I would attempt that. I’ve never used a mag so I don’t know how good this one is, but I have to believe it is okay.

I looked at the address for this seller--it says GDI and has their same address in Greece. I want one but no money right now.
