to enable search feature in those forums

I know, this is useless and boring, but the forum's admin told me to post one msg to enable the search feature, so here's my first post.

Certain permissions get enabled in the forums as you create new posts, and the search feature gets enabled after your first one. Note that there may be a short delay between your first post and being able to see the search menu.

In my case, the Search button magically appeared immediately I had posted.
You mention "Certain permissions". Should I have read about this somewhere (have looked but perhaps I need new spectacles)? Can you elaborate please?

This information is not provided in the FAQ. It's just part of the forum setup. In the past, forum restrictions were more relaxed, but spammers and hackers have made it necessary to tighten security somewhat. If you're a responsible member, most of these restrictions will go unnoticed.

I have been lurking for a while now too. Glad I found this post about search because I thought I was being blind and missing the search link.

Obviously this is the lurker's celebration thread! I'm glad I'm not the only one! I could use that search button. Google doesn't offer very much selectivity!

I've been looking everywhere for the search facilty, now I know why I couldn't find it
