Yes, among other things cookies too.
But what if cookies were blocked?
There must be other ways too...

what are you doing now ???

If cookies are blocked there's anotehr very easy way:

MAC address

Each ethernet based device has one , unique number of that... and there are 2^48 possible combinations...

(original MAC-48 is made of 48 bits...)

Now... if you have an ethernet stuff... or anyway a NIC (network interface card) like wireless stuff or bluetooth (also but not only) you could be traced down even if IP address is different.

That's cause the NIC level packets (medium interface layer in OSI pile) are below IP level (network layer) and thus encapsulated inside IP packet... so an IP packet always contains MAC informations....

Now... there are ways to avoid that... or well... hide you more efficiently but sometimes it's rather simple buying another NIC (e.g. another router in your case...) and use that.

Said that... if "someone" wanna really find you he will!

But don't let me tell you who this someone could be...

Kind regards,
Max

Interesting stuff.....other words; real scab here is my router, not pc!? Aint not such problem, that can't be solved with 5kg hammer! Especially tiny Huawei i have!
Or to flash router's prom frequently !!!? Ahahahahahah!
Yes you are right; those who are supposed to find me easy - those will found me easy. Recently my exact home place was marked at Google Earth!
No need to use IP or any other approach...

Actually the answer is very simple.

The forum software records all IP addresses used, and it is then very easy to link multiple IPs to one user, or even to discover other users using the same IP. There is no mystery here.

That's why (after only one post) I was able to connect Peroon's 2 nicks. There are also other users here with more than one nick, but as long as they don't cause a problem then it's ok. There are even some users here with multiple nicks which they think I don't know about!

This is not the only method available to Admin. As they say, there's more than one way to skin a cat.

Don't mess with a cat......in a sack!

Interesting and simple method you described there. I thought it was much more complicated!
If it was on my way; i would remotely read hard disk ID bytes, or router ID or something simillar....
But than again, for what? Not a big deal after all.
I can understand need for multiplied nicks. Me personally, i would like to dissociate one part of my character here from another. One part is dealing mostly with tech stuff closely related to VLF and PI metal detectors. Other part can deal with everything else on this forum. This is advantage and not drawback, also shows how rich this forum turned to be. Many interesting, yet much different subjects. Also i dont want to be annoying to other members showing myself everywhere with same nick, same avatar, same font....
Already got few remarks on my way of posting here recently. So.... 2 nicks to have is not sin at all. Of course, as long as no harm, from those, done here.

To be honest, most of the forum controls are there to prevent spammers from entering the system, and to enable removal of them, and their posts, as easily as possible. We can also ban their IPs and email addresses, and disable their logins. This is all done to enable our members to have a more pleasant experience when visiting Geotech. The intention is not to act as forum police. In fact, the rules here are very relaxed compared to other forums; although occasionally there has to be a reminder of the rules. Incidently, no members have managed to get themselves banned so far this year, except those who have posted blatant spam.

Hopefully you have noticed that some recent changes, to prevent posting by unregistered users, has made a dramatic difference to the amount of spam being posted. Most spammers cannot be bothered to register, as it must be done by a human being, and their posts are usually removed within minutes, even before another member can click the "report this post" icon.

All we ask is that you follow these simple guidelines from DarthCarl:
  • Be polite. Write messages as if you are standing in front of someone talking to them.
  • Criticism should be relevant and constructive. If you disagree with something, state your case, and move on.
  • Don't post copyrighted material
  • I also ask that posts be written in English to maximize participation. If English is not your native language, just do the best you can.

Kind regards,
