I've been busy or wounded since last Spring and only got out a couple of times. And I didn’t know what I was doing. I got no response with the RMS mode so I'm probably doing something wrong. The ADRI mode is very interesting as it automatically scans the area and reports back what items it found. But I'm still learning to work it properly. The manual mode MDRI is basically a frequency discriminator where you just follow the rod to the target or box-in method. That gives a nice signal even on fresh-dropped targets. I can feel the buzz in my free hand when it is aimed at a target.

I think once I get more practice with the manual mode I will get better results with the automatic mode. It is different than what I have been using as the rod needs to be held level and you don’t sweep, just point it at the search area and let it work. Every other locator I have used you need to angle the rod tip down a little bit but the Adriot works differently. It scans through the fourteen different target types and pulls the antenna to whatever it finds, so the antenna moves back and forth and it alerts you when it detects one and then shows the icon on the screen for a couple of seconds before moving on the the next item.

Then after the timer runs out you scroll through the detected items and choose which one to search for. So there are several steps it leads you through and directs you to the target. My brain is slow and it took a while to remember all the necessary steps to follow. It would be nice if they displayed all the steps as you proceed like which buttons to press. I'm sure after I learn it all I will remember what to do, but out in the field I kinda get easily flustered and can't remember the steps.

There are a couple how-to videos but they lack important details like how to adjust the balance and sensitivity. Sounds simple but its not all that easy.

I'm glad you're okay! Maybe to study the device, he will first rely on electronics and work in Auto mode. And then, when there is a positive result, switch to manual mode and make fine adjustments.

The only adjustments are made in the RMS mode. The automatic mode requires a certain technique to allow the rod to swing whatever direction it wants to. My main problem is not having a long time buried target away from electrical interference. A small target fresh dropped just doesn’t work that well for training purposes. I suspect if I get out to a real target it will work a lot better.

Well, it's up to you to decide when working with a new or unfamiliar MD (Metal Detector) if I haven't memorized everything from the instructions first, or turn on the program on the device during the search. After working a bit, I start changing modes and see what happens. As I said, it's up to you...!

I’m trying. It’s different from what I’m used to so it will take me a while to get accustomed to it. I know a treasure that is off limits. When the weather warms and I feel better I will try to get a hit on it from a distance.

I realize it seems like the automatic mode should be easier to use but it’s not. Maybe it is if there is a big, long-time buried target there. It’s kinda hard to explain but everything has to work right otherwise it stalls in the middle of the process. And I just don’t have enough experience using it. I tried to go out in June but my leg did not cooperate on the rough ground and steep hills in rattlesnake country. I had on tall boots and snake chaps and I couldn’t walk very well and was nervous I might fall down and hurt my leg. Things went downhill from there and still not very good. But at least I’m still alive. I hope next year is better.

I found this video for the Ajax Iota shows ground balancing. It’s not the same as the Adroit but I hope I can use it. It’s the RMS mode that I haven’t had much understanding so I’m hoping this will help.

Among other thing it says the target needs to be buried for 15 years to get a good signal in this mode.

The manual mode works like any frequency generator, and the automatic mode is I little harder to use, but I am getting to understand it more.

I spoke with a sales rep at Vertex this morning. He said they are working on a how-to video for the RMS mode that should be out soon. I asked about target size, he said it will detect small targets, just that any target needs to be buried for enough time to develop a field around it. He said copper doesn’t take as long as gold or silver. He also said in about a month there would be a person in the USA who can help answer questions.

I didn’t explain this locator very well. In the automatic mode it searches 14 different frequencies and alerts you to what it finds. Then you decide which one and it vibrates and shows the target icon when you are aimed at the target. If you are not aimed at the target it will show you which way to point until the target icon shows on the screen again. This is totally different that other locators which rely on the antenna swinging—you aim it and it shows when you are on line. Yes, the antenna can swing but in the automatic mode you aim it.

In the manual mode the antenna does swing like other locators people refer to as dowsing. But the automatic mode is totally different and it is nice to see the target icon when you are aimed at the target.

Hello, is it working? Its worth bying it? Thank you.

They say the manual mode MDRI is for seasoned locator users. By that I think they mean you have to be able to use an L-rod because you walk along and watch for the antenna to swing right or left.

But in the automatic mode ADRI it alerts you when you have it aimed at the target. This is really nice. I haven’t had much time with it outdoors so I guess I can’t say for certain how well it works, but my thinking is it is probably your best shot at success especially compared to designing and building your own locator or for that matter any other buildable design. You could spend a long time trying to get something that works, if ever.

Well, it’s not inexpensive at 1500 euros but compared to other locators in this category it is probably the lowest price especially for the features you get. I compare it to the Ajax Alpha only quite a bit better. Almost all other locators rely on the antenna swinging. Having it point out the target for you is a huge advantage in my opinion, even if you know how to use a swing rod.

So yeah, I think it is worth owning one but you still have to get there do the searching. That’s an expense in time and money and your energy. One thing about the automatic mode is you can’t adjust the distance or depth. So the target could be a long ways away.

I’m still not able to get anything in the RMS mode. I hope to get that figured out soon.
